Women of all sizes deserve respect

----

Feminist/Positive Ponies and fat/body positive posts are probably my absolute favorite things on Tumblr and I did this one a little while ago. Forgot to post it here, well here it is!

really bizarre that people thinking treating fat people with respect is promoting obesity.

If I were obese I'd probably be more likely to want to lose weight if people were polite and not constantly insulting me.

You all also forget lots of people with self esteem issues have eating disorders, this also goes for people who binge eat and are overweight. It's just a constant cycle if you're using insults and hostility to get somebody to lose weight.

Also it's not your body I don't really get why you care

I can't agree with this. While I won't insult people simply for being overweight, it's a terrible idea to lie to them. We shouldn't say "Oh your fat, well that's okay, you're still beautiful." We should be encouraging these people to eat healthier and exercise or if it has something to do with an unbalanced metabolism, that they talk to a doctor. If you really care about these people, you'll want what's best for them.

Or, we could just let people choose how to live their life.

I didn't say we should force them to lose weight. If they want to ignore all warnings and inconvenience themselves fine but to tell them that they're living a healthy and good lifestyle does more harm than good.

And why are you even so concerned about what's good for other people?

The reason I'm concerned is just basic humanity. In the same way a smoker should know the truth about his dangerous habits, so should an obese person. They shouldn't be lied to and told that they're healthy or that it's okay to stay that way. I'm not saying this out of mean spirit, it's the truth. Now I won't force them to lose weight or anything, but they should know the dangers of being overweight. Instead of encouraging them to stay in a way that harms them, why not encourage them to strive for a healthier lifestyle?

If you believe that being fat is bad then of yourse you are allowed to base your lifestyle on this, but fat people don't need to be told what should be right for them.

They do need to be told however, the risks that come with being fat. And if you tell them that they should be happy living that way, than you're encouraging people to live in a way that puts them at risk or inconveniences them. The leading cause of death in the U.S. is heart disease which can easily be caused by obesity so people do need to be told what is right for them, at least health wise. Telling them that it's okay to be fat is putting them in harms way and shouldn't be encouraged.

That's not the point, not all people that would be considered fat are like the from gaining weight. Some people are just naturally chubby or thick, the point is that people like that shouldn't be harassed and teased about their natural bodies. Instead they should be encouraged to be comfortable in their own skin.

Sure
Do you think I'm stupid
I know this
I'm just referring to the people this hurts
Being naturally fat is fine but that's not an excuse not to exercise
People need to take care of themselves and this goes against that

It's referring to people who are naturally chubby, not people who are dangerously obese. And being fat or chubby does not mean that someone is lazy or doesn't take care of themselves.

hey

it may be
but I didn't know this so thanks

I just think more people should think
about what they're saying
ya'know balance
something that helps someone can hurt another
fat has a broad spectrum and unforeseen consequences can be lurking underneath

Yeah, I get what you're saying, I just think that people who are obese probably already know that they're obese so shaming them for it and lowering their self esteem doesn't help anyone, the best thing to do is help them, to feel comfortable in their own skin, whether that means losing a lot of weight or a little bit of weight is up to them.

Disclaimer: I don't have anything against fat people nor have I ever fat shamed any one.

I have mixed feelings (and don't really know a whole lot) about body positivity. I don't care about how fat people look. My concern comes from health and economic reasons. The number of health problems that can pop for over weight people are driving up the insurance rates. But what I do find to be noble about body positivity (from what I know) is that it helps boost the self-esteem of women and fat people.

As long as people are healthy, there is no problem with being under/overweight. Actually, it's the opposite. People should be proud of their bodies!

While everyone can agree that being overweight is not necessarily a healthy thing, I think too many perpetuates that fact into it being something "wrong" about overweight people. I think it's horrible that we tend to moralize people's appearance like that and take away their individual worth as people. It's very self righteous. A part from stating the obvious, I found this image really cute.

I believe in body positivity for everyone. However I specified women for this post because of the discrimination that fat women face. While fat people as a whole are seen negatively, fat men still have male privilege and are still held higher than fat women when they should have equal ground as anyone else. That isn't to say that men don't need body positivity as well, it is simply that fat women especially in today's world deal with many problems that for the most part target them specifically.

I always picture Pinky as a cute chubby human. This is adorable.

*Short rant just need to get it off my chest feel free not to read*
I prefer healthy. You can be "fat" and healthy and you can be thin and not healthy. I hate that people use size to determine that. I'm thin, I get crap from random strangers if I say I wanna work out or eat well, "oh but you're thin already". That has nothing to do with it! One of my friends who is bigger than me eats better and spends more time outside, not exactly living healthy but way more than I am!! I find her incredibly sexy but she is also trying to better herself and live healthier... we are workout buddies but lately we have both been soo lazy... Point is that fat is not ok if you are unhealthy and its just as bad to be thin and unhealthy!

Whether you are fat or skinny, healthy or unhealthy is literally no one's business but your own.

I don't agree with that. If someone I care for is hurting their health then it's my business (dad had clogged arteries and had to have surgery, you better believe I watched how he was eating after that). And I think you care too and stick your nose in also, otherwise why make this piece of art? Or are unhealthy thoughts different?

I make the art in support of people who have their body and decisions criticized daily by strangers. Even if I don't agree with someone's choices in health that does not mean I'm going to say anything to them because it isn't my business. It's theirs. If they change that's their choice, if they don't it's their choice. This doesn't mean don't CARE. You can care all you want. But the main point is that you love/respect people not despite the things you don't like, but with them. If you want to say something to a family member whatever it's your thing because that is not a stranger. But I do NOT agree with the constant comments I hear every day from people around me that criticize someone else on their habits when they have NO impact on the criticizer's life whatsoever.
